Nestled in the stunning Lockyer Valley, just over an hour from Brisbane, our certified organic farm specializes in producing pure organic lucerne hay as well as a Lucerne/Reclaimer Rhodes mix. We offer baling options in small squares, 4x3 rounds, and 4x4 rounds (4x4's are upon request). Visitors are welcome to make an appointment to view our organic hay completely obligation-free. The name Old Mill Organic Farm comes from the old windmill that was on my parent's farm when I was young. It's a beautiful Southern Cross mill that was actually on that property long before my parents purchased it in 1959. In 2023, we relocated it from my childhood property at the head of the creek to our current certified organic farm at Upper Tenthill in the Lockyer Valley, where it proudly stands spinning away like it has done for all those years. Our organic hay farm also produces exceptional organic lucerne, contributing to the thriving agricultural community in South East Queensland.
Our certified organic soils in the Lockyer Valley are incredibly fertile, producing a highly nutritious product. Our water, sourced from the underground aquifer fed by Tenthill Creek, originates in the Main Range National Park at the creek's head, ensuring excellent quality and a plentiful supply in most seasons. At our organic hay farm, no chemicals are used at any stage in the growing or storage of our organic lucerne. This commitment means we engage in lots of hand weeding when necessary, providing TLC and working in harmony with Mother Nature in South East Queensland.
Having had competition horses for over 40 years we know the kind of hay you are looking for. We both completed 3 years at the (then) Queensland Agricultural College doing Certificate and then Associate Diploma courses in Rural Techniques, specialising in Grazing Animal Husbandry.
Roy spent many years working for a large pastoral company before running his own Educational Resources business while Trude was Qld's first Landcare Co-ordinator and then Publicity Officer for a large organic veggie farm. We also had 8 years in that certified organic veggie business, operating the 2 farms as one enterprise, before both stepping back to concentrate on growing certified organic hay on our Upper Tenthill farm, Old Mill Organic Farm.
